Purple Just Wasn't For You

Acrylic on canvas - 2024
Inspired by the song Colors by Halsey, Purple Just Wasn’t For You is a visual exploration of transformation, heartbreak, and the aftermath of a toxic connection. The painting takes its name from the lyric that wraps endlessly around the canvas — a refrain that becomes both mantra and scar:
"You were red and you liked me 'cause I was blue... and then you touched me and suddenly I was a lilac sky, and you decided purple just wasn't for you."
At its core, the piece captures the emotional toll of bending yourself to fit into someone else’s palette. Two faces, one blue and one red, sit on either side — their features bound by a third face emerging in the center, painted in shades of purple. It’s a portrait of becoming: of losing yourself in someone else, of trying to blend two identities into harmony, only to be left behind when the colors no longer suit them.
Purple Just Wasn’t For You is a deeply personal reckoning — with identity, with love, and with the painful beauty of growth through letting go.
